April 2023

The April 2023 market report features insights on the most in demand essential oils and carrier oils. Suppliers of Hyssop Essential Oil are working to meet the increasing customer demand. Niaouli and Rose Geranium Organic Essential Oils are experiencing favorable market conditions and increased demand. Meanwhile, the growing conditions for Nutmeg (India) Essential Oil are recovering after flooding in the growing region.

Tamanu Carrier Oil – Virgin (Vietnam) is the most in-demand carrier oil of the month. While the projected harvest yield is stable, the demand is increasing due to consumers' awareness of its numerous benefits. Read more about the latest industry trends from the experts at NDA.

Hyssop Essential Oil

Hyssop Essential Oil is steam distilled from the flowers of the Hyssopus officinalis L. plant grown in Slovenia. The harvest season typically occurs during the summer months, between June and July. The current growing conditions are favorable, although it is too early to determine the projected harvest yield since the new harvest is not ready yet. The Hyssop plant thrives in well-drained soil that is slightly dry and responds well to a generous amount of sunlight. A moderate continental climate is ideal for cultivating and harvesting the crop.

The current market demand for Hyssop Essential Oil indicates increasing customer interest in the product. Although the market conditions present increased customer demand, there is currently insufficient material available. Suppliers are working to increase the total supply to meet the demand.

Niaouli Essential Oil

Niaouli Essential Oil is steam distilled from the leaves and twigs of the Melaleuca quinquenervia, an evergreen tree native to Australia and grown in Madagascar. Harvesting takes place year-round, and since it is a wild-harvested crop, there is no dependency on specific growing conditions. The Niaouli tree grows best in soil of the marshy area and thrives in areas with high humidity.

The projected harvest yield for Niaouli Essential Oil is expected to be favorable due to the abundance of raw materials. Although the market demand for Niaouli Essential Oil is experiencing slight improvements, the market conditions indicate stagnation.

Nutmeg (India) Essential Oil

Known for its spicy, warm, and woody aroma, Nutmeg Essential Oil is steam distilled from the seeds of the Myristica fragrans trees grown in India. The harvesting takes place in six months of the year, starting in June and ending in December, during which the monsoon rains nourish the trees. The Nutmeg evergreen trees thrive best in the red soil of the Kerala region and require a temperature range of 28–30-degrees Celsius.

Unfortunately, the floods in Kerala have had a negative impact on the growing conditions for Myristica fragrans. The plants were infected, and the yield decreased as a result. While the current conditions are gradually improving, the demand for Nutmeg Essential Oil continues to surpass available supply.

Rose Geranium Organic Essential Oil

Rose Geranium Organic Essential Oil is steam distilled from the petals of the Pelargonium roseum x asperum grown in South Africa. The harvesting takes place during the drier months, which begins in April and ends in November. The Rose Geranium plant thrives in sandy soil and require abundant sunlight. They do not respond well during months of heavy rainfall and excessive watering. The current growing conditions for Rose Geranium are favorable.

Currently, it is too early to determine the projected harvest yield, as the harvesting has not yet begun. The market demand for Organic Rose Geranium Essential Oil is steadily rising, and the prices are beginning to stabilize.

Tamanu Carrier Oil – Virgin (Vietnam)

Tamanu Virgin Carrier Oil is cold pressed from the Calophyllum inophyllum seeds grown in Vietnam. This crop is harvested year-round, with the peak season occuring between May and October. Tamanu trees thrive in the soil of plain fields and in dry and sunny weather conditions. The growing conditions are favorable since the trees are grown naturally in gardens and fields.

While the projected harvest yield for this year is expected to be similar to last year's, the amount of raw materials will depend on the weather. Currently, there are no special conditions in the market for Tamanu Carrier Oil. However, due to increased knowledge of its benefits for pharmacy, health, and beauty, Tamanu Oil has experienced an annual increase in demand.
