Glyceryl Stearate SE is a versatile and highly effective secondary emulsifier and thickener, sold in bead form with little to no odor. Also known as Glyceryl Monostearate, this variety is crafted from the naturally derived fatty acids of vegetable oils such as Soy and Palm Kernel Oil. This results in a white or off-white wax-like texture produced through the esterification of Glycerin and Stearic Acid. The "SE" stands for "Self-Emulsifying," highlighting its capability to create stable emulsions due to the inclusion of Sodium Stearate and/or Potassium Stearate.
In neutral-to-slightly-alkaline formulations, Glyceryl Stearate SE excels as a stabilizer, opacifier, and emollient. Its thickening properties minimize the need for additional emulsifiers in many oil-based formulations. Moreover, it has the unique ability to form liquid crystalline and/or crystalline gel phases in emulsions with a high water content, enhancing the texture and stability of the final product.
