This constituent is a Terpenoid and it has two different stereoisomers with diverse scents: (+)-citronellol, the more common isomer, is found in Citronella Oil and has a citrus scent.(–)-Citronellol, also called rhodinol, has a clean floral scent similar to that of Rose. The two isomers have different plant origins – Lemongrass contains mostly (+)-Citronellol while roses have more (–)-Citronellol. Plants such as Geranium contain a combination of both isomers.
